2011 Halfway

Pretty Lights

Pretty Lights

Since his first appearance at Forecastle Festival in 2009, Derek Vincent Smith of Pretty Lights has become one of the hottest names in electronic music. Known for the use of vintage soul and R&B samples, his synth lines and hip hop beats have become a mainstay on the festival circuit. His high energy shows have been known to ignite crowds and thrill the senses with a mesmerizing combination of lights and sound.

Big Boi

Big Boi

As one half of the hip-hop duo Outkast, Big Boi has made a name for himself as a solo artist with his critically-acclaimed album, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (2010). His live shows are a mix of old Outkast favorites, coupled with plenty of new material – Big Boi maintains his charisma and showmanship throughout. He’s guaranteed to put on a show that will get the crowd moving and singing along.

RJD2

RJD2

Since 2002, DJ, producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist RJD2 has gained notoriety and worldwide acclaim as a genre chameleon. His musical career has spanned across pop, hip-hop, electronic, and more. His debut album, Dead Ringer, is considered one of the best and most influential underground hip-hop releases of the era. He has since gone onto release numerous records in multiple genres, producing a complex mix of sound that is atmospheric yet danceable.

Twin Shadow

Twin Shadow

Twin Shadow (George Lewis Jr.) was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Florida. His debut album Forget, produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, has been described as “steeped in 1980s new wave”, “building from streaks of haunting synth textures”, having “sophisticated melodies”, “R&B intimacy”, and “poetic lyrics”, and “hazily new wave-tinged pop”. Twin Shadow was recently Rolling Stone’s ‘Band of the Week’ and performed at Coachella, Sasquatch, and Primavera Sound, with upcoming appearances at Bonnaroo and Pitchfork. He will also be supporting Florence and the Machine for their 2011 tour.

Mimosa

Mimosa

Mimosa takes the listener on a space age psychedelic journey of bittersweet ecstasy. Only a two year veteran of the west coast sound movement, Mimosa is quickly making a name for himself as one of the top west coast exports. This young producer’s energy while performing is magnetic; the word has spread fast and Mimosa has recently shared the stage with the likes Benga, Skream, Rusko, Datsik, Glitch Mob, ill.gates, Bassnectar and Flying Lotus, playing shows across the US and festivals like Coachella, Symbiosis Gathering, Burning Man and Decibel Festival.

BoomBox

BoomBox

BoomBox is the collaboration of two vibrant artists, Russ Randolph and Zion Rock Godchaux. This pair of dynamic artists uses their rich musical history and their vision of music and popular culture to deliver a style of music distinctly different from anything heard or seen in music today. This signature sound and show brings live music to a new, elevated level. The group will be making their 2nd Forecastle appearance.

Ana Sia

Ana Sia

Characterized by her raw, electro-beats and passion for making people dance, Ana Sia has become one of today’s most established female DJs. Her funky style, combined with the high-energy delivery of dirty beats, will keep the crowd mesmerized in her music. Her love of dance music combined with an innate understanding of the value of dance to the human soul collectively fuse to create unforgettable sets of experience, whether she is slamming spots in her hometown of San Francisco or taking her turn in the forests of music festivals around the country.

Gramatik

Gramatik

Good music is felt not heard. Gramatik apparently understood that at an age of 3, when his mother would catch him glued to the radio in his older sister’s room whenever there was an old funk or rhythm & blues joint on, tapping his leg on the floor along with the beat. Over 50,000 downloaded tracks later, Gramatik has matured into one of the hottest up-and-coming electronic artists in the country, working on various projects and collaborations, while growing his fanbase nationally.

Q&A.

What is Halfway to Forecastle?

Halfway to Forecastle is a mini-fest designed to celebrate and commemorate the “Halfway” point to the annual Forecastle Festival. Now in its 4th year, the event features many of Forecastle’s trademark components in smaller proportions, situated in a non-traditional venue. A sensory stimulating, high-energy, all ages event, the past three have sold-out in advance, while continually upgrading to larger venues.

This year’s event is much bigger than usual, and will calm the tides while we prepare for the 10th Anniversary of Forecastle Festival, taking place in the summer of 2012 at Waterfront Park.

Where is the event?

Halfway to Forecastle will take place at Waterfront Park, part of a scenic, $60 million dollar riverfront investment by the City of Louisville, which attracts 1.5 million visitors a year. The after-party will be held at The Ice House – the first show hosted at the newly-renovated, ex-Artic Ice manufacturing facility. See a map of Waterfront Park here. Halfway will take place in the Wharf area.

The After-Party will take place at The Ice House. A new, multi-purpose venue that used to manufacturer Artic Ice. Halfway will be the first major event hosted there.

What does VIP include?

The VIP area will include a preferred viewing area, private bar, gourmet food vendor, bathrooms, lounge, nautical decor and amenities. It’s similar to the Forecastle 2010 VIP area, but scaled accordingly. Tickets are limited and only available online only, at etix.com.
